Starting Net-SNMP Service in Fedora Core

You noticed that the Net-SNMP already installed in your Fedora Linux.






But the service was not running.

[root@mailman snmp]# ps -ef | grep snmpd
root     3667     3369   0 19:40 pts/2     00:00:00 grep snmpd


See, no snmpd.pid found in the process list. Or type service snmpd status, you will see the result that snmpd is stopped.

[root@mailman snmp]# service snmpd status
snmpd is stopped

Now, how do you start that service? Type service snmpd start, and you will see [OK] message that means the snmpd service now started.

How to Open SNMP Service on UDP Port 161 in Windows Firewall (Vista and Windows XP)

For Vista Users: Open Windows Firewall Settings. If you scroll through the Programs and Services selection box, you cannot find the SNMP Service check box. Therefore, you need to create it. Now click Add Port… Button (1).
















Scroll the Program or port selection box until you found the SNMP Service check box (1). Now check the box, then click OK.

Problem Accessing Windows Share Folder between computers

You have checked that:

  • You can Ping the target computer
  • The Firewall didn’t drop your packets to access the target computer
But still you cannot access the target computer and you get below error.


You might want to check the Network Connection Properties. Check and make sure that the “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” is ticked.
